There was a host of speakers representing women in all walks of life from arts & culture to business to civic leadership to religion. Keynote speaker on the day was Grainne Kelly, CEO of BubbleBum, who spoke about the challenges of being a woman in the business world and bringing her idea of an inflatable car booster seat from concept to shelf in just nine months.

The conference also heard from Sharon O’Connor, Town Clerk and Chief Executive of Derry City Council, who spoke about her personal journey and what motivated her to achieve her goals.

Bishop of Meath and Kildare, Pat Storey, who made history when she was made the first female bishop in the UK and Ireland, addressed the audience about her life and work.

Acclaimed actress and singer Bronagh Gallagher also spoke at the event, focusing on the theme of inspiration and the women who helped give her the confidence to succeed.

Guests also heard about the ‘Vision for the Future” from local 6th form student at St Mary’s College, Annie McCauley.

Towards the end of the event there was a fantastic conference overview given by local commentator, Anita Robinson.

There was also plenty of musical talent on display with songs from the winner of BBC’s The Voice 2013, Andrea Begley. There was a performance by local choir The Pink Ladies, and the crowd was also entertained by renowned local songstress, Diane Greer.

Co-ordinator of FWIN, Catherine Cooke, said: “It was such a fantastic day and a wonderful celebration of so many truly inspirational women, not only from this city, but from throughout the region.

“It was brilliant to hear from women involved in so many different spheres of society, from the worlds of religion, business, music, acting, and everything else in between.

“There was great entertainment from some wonderfully talented women and I have no doubt that everybody thoroughly enjoyed the day. “I’d like to thank everyone who helped make the event such a resounding success, especially all our speakers and performers. I’d also like to thank all our funders, for the vital support they provide.

“I also want to thank all our members, it’s the women from this city who made FWIN what it is and without the support of each and every one of them, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”
